Best sleep ever!

We all had the best sleep ever, I usually have trouble sleeping in hotels and just listening to the waves and smells of the ocean were priceless!

Our favorite condo hands down!!!

What a home away from home. Excellent modern condo smack on the water front. If you sit on the lenai and the waves are good size, you will get sprayed by the ocean crashing in the rocks. Super quiet well kept grounds. Inside we had 2 bed. 2 bath. All the pots and pans, linens even a washer and dryer. The staff will accommodate any extra need you may have. Parking is right in front of your unit. To the south west of the complex is a wonderfully black sand beach with amazing tide pools and ancient ruins. Our condo had all the beach gear in the down stairs closet. Umbrella, chairs even snorkel gear and fins.we brought our own but used the chairs, umbrella, towels. Inside is a two story all electric appliances even blender and rice cooker. Tiled floors throughout. Living room dining area and a downstairs air conditioner. We set up a fan in the stairwell to move cold air upstairs, only one window air conditioner for #187. It's central location is perfect to start your day off in whatever direction you choose to travel. I plan to post the condo # 187 on YouTube shortly. I've stayed at countless beachfront condos through the years on many islands and all up an down the coast of California, this condo in Kona Hawaii is by far the best of them all. Even other guests noted that ours" 187" had the best beach front back yard. If you stay in 187 give our birds a little treat in the morning while you're having your coffee on the lenai. Especially the little yellow birds that come to greet you. You will enjoy this place, I guarantee it. Sincerely; Gary Nitowski. less

Absolute Perfection

Our group stayed for a few days in this condo in May 2022. It was absolutely perfect. The view from the lanai was gorgeous and better than the expensive hotel we stayed at for the first half of our vacation. It is also within 5 minutes driving distance to all conveniences you'd need. We highly recommend this condo! less

Returning customer

This was our 3rd stay in this complex of condos & townhomes. Unfortunately, we will not return to this unit. Photos online are very misleading & should be updated reflecting what is actually at the unit. The unit was dirty upon our arrival, there was mice droppings on top of the refrigerator along with a month's worth of dust & the oven hadn't been cleaned in a while. Some lights were inoperative & living & dining room furniture was so old & uncomfortable that we spent a minimal amount of time using them. We were also charged $15.00 per day for "Air Conditioning" which we never used during our stay, the A/C unit was a window unit. Just about everything about this unit felt cheap & that the owner put the least amount of effort into preparing this unit for renters. The proximity to the ocean is what's allowing this unit to be attractive while viewing online but does not make up for the lack of comfort. All three of us visiting this unit plan to write very poor reviews with Yelp. My wife & I have been visiting the Kona area almost every year since 1998 & this was the most disappointing unit that we have stayed at. less

Owner/Manager Response

We always thank guests for their reviews. We wish these guests had contacted us during their stay as we are always happy to be able to correct issues. We looked at the top of the fridge (and even moved it out) and didn’t see anything. We don’t have mice, but what they may have seen was from our geckos. Also the oven was clean. Lights and fans appear to be working, but again, if a light goes out, just let us know, this is the easiest thing to fix. Electricity in Hawaii is all created via diesel generators. Power here is almost three times the national average and state, by state, it’s the most expensive by far. It’s very common for vacation rentals to charge extra for A/C. The window unit (shown in photos and detailed on the website) is all that we can provide within the guidelines. We’re glad they enjoyed the view, it’s quite amazing to be so close to the ocean. As you can imagine, the salt air is very hard on the condo and all furnishings. We are planning to replace couch and chair cushions. We actually had an issue outside the condo that the guest helped us work on and during those phone calls and texts none of these other issues were mentioned. Please know that we relish the opportunity to correct anything you believe is wrong during the stay.

Perfect in Every Way

This condo is perfect in every way. The location (right on the ocean), end unit. The house is equipped with mostly everything you need. Will definitely stay here again.

Amazing Return Trip

I always feel the greatest compliment to give a place is a return trip. I was there in May over Mother’s Day with my daughter and a lot of grief in our hearts from the loss of many family members during Covid. To sit on the patio and hear/see the waves crashing up was the most healing trip. I returned last week to bring my husband and enjoy a week at the same condo, it was everything we needed. Location, privacy, instructions for check in and out were clear. Kitchen had everything, although I would request to add more bath towels, and better bedding for twin beds. I bought a light comforter and blanket which I left. All in all both trips to condo 187 were incredible experiences and I can’t wait to come back!! less

Ohana approved

Had a wonderful time at the condo, great location and easy to find. Kitchen was stocked with basics and very clean. View was amazing, it was great having a cup of coffee in the morning on the patio and then watching the sunset in the evening. Has all the beach necessities(could use some new towels). Would definitely stay again! less

Good stay, beautiful view, convenient location

My husband and I really enjoyed the wonderful location and the linai and beautiful ocean from this house. Overall it has great amenities and features. However, we struggled a bit with the bugs and in the bathroom ant problems in the kitchen despite following everything in the welcome checklist that was provided. I would request them to do basic pest control to avoid this problem in the future. less

Great location!

The location of this condo couldn’t be better! Whales and dolphins off the front porch, and a quick walk to the beautiful pool. The indoor amenities could use an upgrade, however. We were there for a month and the linens, furniture and kitchen items were all very well used. It was super clean when we arrived though, and the interim cleaning was great! less

Beautiful views

We loved our condo and watching the sunsets every night. Rocco was very responsive and took great care of us. Thank you! We hope to come back again in the future.

Lovely setting

Who can stay in a place just steps from the ocean and not say it was lovely? The gated community felt safe, was quiet with friendly neighbors. The. Pool was nice and conveniently located. The condo was basic with a great kitchen, new appliances in good working order. We had a king bed which was great. Our friends said they would stay in the twin beds; these are really best used by kids, not adults. The back patio looked out at the ocean. Owner was responsive to messages; much appreciated! less

Vacation at kona surf and racquet club

Our family was very happy with our stay at your resort. Beautiful property, ocean views and sunsets. We took advantage of the beach, the swimming pool and the great location to services and restaurants. Our condo was very clean and comfortable. Air downstairs was great, but we could use some upstairs. This would have helped but we still loved the stay and Hawaii. Thank you less

Unfortunately, there were several minor problems. Otherwise, location and size were great. Front screen door slams, out of gas Main washroom toilet seat coming loose Main washroom- shower only partly works, some water coming out tap in shower mode Bedroom #2- only 1 set of 3 blinds work All - catches for blinds all rusted. Need plastic Lanai - umbrella broken. Ribs rusted. Needs replacing Lanai- front edge tiles broken. Needs fixing for safety. Stair hallway- light out, needs replacement less

Such a lovely place to stay on the Kona side

I brought my momma here for her 70th b-day and it did not disappoint! She was so enamored with the location right on the ocean. We loved our stay here - big beautiful kitchen, two full baths, two lovely bedrooms, etc. The only thing to mention would be if you are a light sleeper or need to sleep in a cool room, the master would not be a room you'd enjoy. My mom is both of those things and she had a hard time with that room. I loved it! The sound of the ocean was everything for me. Thank you to Rocco and the whole team who keeps this place such a joy to stay at. less

Excellent time at Keauhou Townhouse 187

We have stayed at many units at Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club over the past 25 years. And while this may not be the high end option it was terrific. Good location, well kept and appointed, very, very reasonable price. We would definitely stay here again! less

Amazing

The oceanfront view was worth putting up with all minor issues the unit have. The leaking AC (downstairs only) was beyond annoying though. Wish we didn’t have to deal with that. We enjoyed every minute of it while there (seeing the fish swimming from the unit, the sunsets, listening to the waves crashing against the rocks at night and so many more). We would definitely rent from this place again. less

Owner/Manager Response

Aloha! Thanks for taking the time to review our property. As you can imagine, being right on the ocean the salt-air is pretty hard on equipment. We have scheduled a repair of the A/C unit and hope to have this fixed asap!

Outstanding location

Management was excellent and extremely accommodating. The location was outstanding, right on the water with uninterrupted view of the ocean. The only negatives were that the place could use a little TLC. Several light fixtures throughout the the condo either didn't work or needed new bulbs. Nothing that was overly negative. Just a little annoying. So maybe 4.5 out of 5 for the rating. Overall we had a wonderful time and would definitely return again. Mike less

— Mike, Stayed 04/08/2019

Nice location but with some flaws

Upstairs master bedroom TV not working, but a new one was installed by the end of the second day. Did not like the upstairs toilet. Too little water to flush #2. It clogged the first morning there and I had to use the plunger to clear it. Used the downstairs toilet the rest of our stay. Thirdly, we ran out of toilet paper. The air conditioner was noisy and the water dripped right on the door mat on the outside, soaking the mat and making your feet wet upon entering the room. The sofa bed had crumbs in it. Had to clean it before using. Had some tiny ants in the bathroom and kitchen. I still do not understand the Additional Person Fee (10 x $15.00). less

— Melvin, Stayed 01/06/2019

Amazing relaxing oceanfront condo

Our stay at 187 exceeded our expectations. Upon arrival, the AC was already turned on- an unexpected and welcome gesture as it was hot and humid out in July. We were amazed at how close the waves were to the porch- this was where I had my morning coffee every day and I was often visited by a colorful gecko. The kids enjoyed the closetful of boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs and umbrellas. We were a half mile from a convenient shopping center and grocery store, and a half mile from Kahalu’u Beach Park for great snorkeling. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. When I had a problem with the dryer, the local contact Kaleo had it fixed immediately. The only issue we had was that although the air conditioning worked really well on the first floor, the upstairs stayed pretty hot. But with the windows open we had an ocean breeze plus the sounds of crashing surf at night. This unit had a convenient shady parking spot and was just steps from the pool and tennis courts. Overall, an amazing stay and I would highly recommend. less

Oceanside townhome

You can’t complain about the view and location (right across the street from the pool). Beautiful wave action right outside your door. This townhouse has AC, but only downstairs. The bedrooms are upstairs so you have to rely on open window breeze and fans to get any sleep and that is with just a sheet. Had trouble with the dryer, but the owner sent a maintenance person quickly. He cleaned the vent which helped. You still get errors if you run it on high. Run on medium heat and it works great. Apparently it is a long run and has several bends creating a need for more flow. Everything was in working order. The window in the north side of the First floor in the living room leaked one night when it rained covering the window sill and then drips caused splashing onto the table between the chair and couch. Unfortunately I had my laptop sitting on that table. It had water inside and no longer works. We did not have pest trouble like our friends did who stayed in townhome 4. They had lots of cockroaches. We did have one gecko visitor, but we caught him and released him outside. These townhomes tend to have all metal corrode due to the sea air. Even the screws on the switch plates get rusted. I don’t think you can avoid this without full home AC. So try to look past this. This townhouse could use some new, unrusty outdoor chairs for the table set. The front screen door is getting pretty old. Overall we looked past some of these issues since the price was much less than newer better higher priced condos. We wish the site had a hot tub. That was probably our biggest complaint. Overall our 2 weeks was a great trip. less

The Importance of Your On-Island Contact

In this day of Airbnb and competitive services let me suggest before you make that booking to consider what you may be missing. The Airbnb idea is simple: the unit owner moves out so you can move in. But what happens if something you expected is missing or an appliance breaks or a smoke alarm low battery starts screeching at 4 AM, how do you get it fixed and quickly? The answer is that you may not get a timely response from the owner and that could make the difference to having a great vacation. 187 is managed by Rocco April of Aloha Condos who make a business of managing vacation rentals. He is not the suite owner nor the one to call about the screeching smoke alarm (Rocco lives in Kauai). His job is like the hotel desk manager, he looks after booking, payment, and any questions about arranging your stay. Kaleo Lindsey is the on-island contact and aside from being responsive, understanding and very pleasant to talk with, he knows his stuff. He is handy with tools and communicating your needs to Rocco and the resort maintenance team that 187 is part of. You may never need to contact Kaleo during your stay but he is there if you need him. Cleaning before and during your stay is done by Rita and from our experience she also does a great job. You may have noticed that I have not mentioned the owner because they are not involved in your stay. Instead you have a seasoned team of vacation professionals looking after you. After many trips to 187 over almost 7 years I can tell you it is the best way to go. less

Condo review

I loved being so close to the ocean and location of the area was perfect, I was not that impressed with the condo itself. The photos that I saw seemed to be gorgeous and there were hardly any towels, bedspreads were old, there was a lot of dirt on windowsill above door, fan inkitchen, I used to be in the Travel Industry and I use to do inspections and for me it was a disappointment for the money we spent. It wasn't as big as the photos showed. The front screen door was not working real well, there a lot of things that need attention so I would never stay there again. I felt like it was way more expensive than most of the other places but from the photos it looked classy and it was not. The ocean was awesome and the view. less

— Kathleen, Stayed 04/16/2018

Owner/Manager Response

As always, we thank each guest for their reviews! There should have been plenty of towels, and guests can always call our 24-hour local contact if something isn't right. We love the opportunity to correct things while the guest is there. This townhome is consistently competitive on price and usually cheaper than the ones around it, not sure where the guest was looking to conclude that it's more expensive. The bedspreads seem ok, but we will make sure they are clean and still servicable.

Great location at a reasonable price

We recently stayed in #187. We were a family of three, two adults and a child. The location was perfect for us. Out of the hustle and bustle of Alii Drive, but close enough and with shopping and dining only a few minutes away. The pool was very nice and right across the street from the home, which was very convenient. The AC was nice in the lower level, but it gets pretty hot upstairs in the bedrooms at night. The best part was the patio with the gorgeous oceanfront drop off. Waves were so loud at night, crashing against the lava rocks, but very cool experience! The kitchen is fairly well equipped. We bought some extra missing provisions, ie, tinfoil, seasonings, etc., and left them for the next guest to use. Only suggestions to the owner would be to update the linens in the bedroom (master) and get some new towels. This is a rental and it is just time to replace these items to give it a cleaner and fresher appearance. Some of the side shelves in the fridge would just fall off when you opened them, so we just took them out and placed them up on top of the fridge for the remainder of the stay, not a big deal. The rental price was very reasonable for a two bedroom condo. We have paid a lot more for smaller condos/townhomes. Be sure and check out the farmers market in the shopping center nearby on Saturdays. We bought fresh fish and fruits/veggies and grilled on the BBQs by the pool. Sam Choys was also a nice place for a dinner. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. The reason for 4 star instead of 5, was the need to replace linens, do some minor cosmetic repairs, etc. Keep in mind, this is oceanfront, and the ocean/jungle takes over quickly. It is understandable that fixtures, appliances, etc., start to rust and deteriorate very fast. None of these issues bothered us, but I could see the negative nelly review this in the future, and I have read some negative reviews already on here. I would not let it distract from the overall wonderful location and set up of this home. less

— Heidi, Stayed 04/16/2018

Perfect location.

My husband and I wanted a get-a-way retreat that would allow me to sit by waves breaking on the Kona lava rocks. I am glad I found this condo. At 5AM, I would take my coffee and chair to the edge of the patio and sit for hours. My husband often joined me. I made our brunch in the well equipped kitchen and we went out to dinner. There are so many restaurants we found online that we did not get to try them all in the week we were there. There is no information about the area or the Raquet club in the condo. Other condos we have stayed on in Kona and on other islands had maps and suggestions. We were also given two keys. We experimented and found one was for the pool. There is one grill across the parking lot, right in the path of traffic but others on the side of the pool. It is a hike to grill if you want to. We had trouble with the key, texted the property manager and he came to lube the doorknob. Took care of the problem. The condo is tired. It is in need of paint in places and color. To me, and this is my opinion, it is drab. The only place I found enough color was in the twin bedroom. We did not need to wash clothes while were were there, but when I loaded the towels and sheets in to the dryer after washing as requested, the dryer did not work. There is not an AC bedrooms upstairs but we were there when it was not hot so the over head fan was sufficient. OH YES, the stairs to the bedrooms are steep and have a lip form a tile overhang on them. BE CAREFUL. I also was hoping for whales but I found out they are all over by Hilo at this time of the year. The sun sets over the sea in the view you get from the lanai. There is not a beach or walkable path in front of the condo so it is fairly private. If you want the view I had, this is a good place to be. I came home refreshed . less

February 2018 stay

Enjoyed this Unit for the 5th Year in a row. We will most likely do it again next year. Only two small issues we had this trip. The keys are hard to operate in the front door lock. Perhaps the door know needs replacing & the dishwasher latch has been broken for two years and needs fixing. less

Keauhou townhome 187

My husband and I and another couple stayed here for a week. It is a 2bd/2bath. While both bedrooms are upstairs, one of the bathrooms is downstairs by the front door. Not ideal in my opinion. The unit was nice overall but there were some deficiencies that can be easily remedied but they weren't. The dishwasher was not working, the light in the stairway was out (making it hard to go downstairs in the middle of the night to use the restroom), the light in the downstairs bath was out, the kitchen faucet was not working properly and last but not least the dryer took forever to dry clothes and towels. I might stay at the resort again but not in that unit. Oh, but the view was stunning out back. less

Kona Christmas Preparation

We have vacationed in Kona many times over the last 6 years and always stay at #187 in the Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club (KKSRC). It's located at the south end of the coast-hugging portion of Ali'i drive just before it ramps up to the Keauhou Shopping center. The unit is superbly managed by Rocco of Aloha Condos along with Kaleo the local contact. KKSRC itself is a pretty big enclave of hundreds of condos with its own crew of highly effective maintenance and security personnel that keep everything running smoothly. This year we found them spending several days getting all the Christmas lighting and decorations up. For folks like us who come from chilly winter climates it is truly quite a sight to see thousands of LED lights spiraling around palm instead of fir trees. This year they added Santa complete with sleigh suspended over the entrance gate. It did feel like Christmas. less

Always a wonderful stay

Our fourth stay at this condo and it's wonderful. Had an issue with the key lock box but on our random 30th time trying to open it, it just popped open. Would definitely help to replace it. Clean, quiet, and always great to fall asleep to the waves crashing. Will return! Feels like home. less

Condo 187

The condo was very nice especially the lanai. Every morning we had coffee on the lanai and the evenings with the sunset were amazing. The roar of the ocean was the best part . The condo was clean, had everything we needed in the kitchen , and the bedroom was very comfortable. The cool breeze coming in at night , slept like a baby. Great place! less

Great Spot!

This was our second stay at the Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club, but our first in this unit. This complex is ideal because of its close proximity to shopping/dining/movie theater yet is away from the crowds of downtown Kona. The pool is great after its recent facelift! The beach was not even a 5 minute walk and was great to walk over to. This unit was very clean and very well equipped with all you could need: ice chests, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels, etc. It's an end unit, which made it even more quiet and private. The view from the lanai is to die for and every morning was spent out there. My family and I really enjoyed our stay and we look forward to coming back! less

Kona Kool 2017

We have been regular visitors to Kona since 2011 and have always stayed at our first location: townhome 187 in the Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club on Ali'i drive. Why? The townhome itself is an end unit which makes for a few more windows and an expanded view of the ocean surf from the lanai. The unit is always clean and ready for us thanks to Kaleo, the on-island contact, and Rita who manages the cleaning. Grounds maintenance is done low key and thoroughly making for a quiet and clean visit. Shopping and good eating (Thai, Mexican, Japanese, Pizza) is available with a very short drive or walk to the Keauhou shopping mall. We go for morning walks along Ali'i drive checking out the surfers and snorkelers in Kahalu'u Bay. The club has excellent swimming and tennis facilities and even though we haven't participated yet lots of guests do. And when you want to make a day of it up in Hapuna beach the suite is well stocked with beach and swim paraphernalia. We will be back, soon! less

We absolutely loved this home!! The location, the accommodations, the views....it was perfect. We are already talking about coming back and renting another property do the entire family can enjoy the island. My only suggestion, and it is small, is that some of the light bulbs were burnt out, so just make sure maintenance double checks that before someone checks in. Mahalo less

What Keeps Kona Kool

We have visited townhome #187 many times with great satisfaction, both with the townhome and the surrounding community of Kona. This time I want to talk about the team that keeps this experience with #187 so repeatable. First there is Rocco who manages the booking process. His automated but useful emails keep you informed of various milestones as you approach your arrival date to make sure you have a seamless entry. He also typically checks in with you on your first day to make sure all is well. BTW Rocco lives on Kauai. So what if you need to talk to someone who can respond right away? That's where Kaleo, your Big Island contact, comes in. On this trip we had a problem with a noisy toilet valve, at least that is what we figured it was. We called Kaleo on Saturday, he agreed with our diagnosis and called back shortly after to tell us that a plumber would be by first thing Monday to resolve. And the plumber did come by and fixed it on schedule. On a previous trip we advised Kaleo of a few minor annoyances with a sticky lanai screen door. This trip it was sliding as smooth as could be. Finally if you noticed how well cleaned #187 was on arrival you can thank Rita. She also does the interim cleanings which we use as our stays are getting longer. less

Kool Kona II

We had just returned from 187 in early December and didn't expect to go back until late spring 2016. Instead on Christmas day we found some attractive availability in early January and a reason to go: humpback whale watching. Well we didn't see any whales from our lanai, they were all off the south coast of Maui at that time, but frankly who cares, we were back in our favorite destination vacation place! The things we enjoy the most are really the simplest and cheapest: walking, swimming, and eating, all of which can be accomplished along the 5.5 mile stretch of Ali'i drive with ease. This time of year Kona is the coolest, temperature wise and busiest for tourist traffic. Still compared to Maui and Oahu it is pretty relaxed and quiet. On our last day the surf level began to deliver some big waves and the resort management was on the job to keep the lanai dry and safe. less

Review

We had a great stay and would recommend the unit to others. Three things need attention: Screen door to lanai is hard to open/close and especially sticks in the closed position so that two hands and a lot of muscle are required to get it to break free from the closed position. Someone prior to our stay had made a hole in the screen near the handle. We assume this is to help in getting a good grip to open the door. This has left a hole in the screen that needs repair especially considering mosquitoes and the dengue fever outbreak. Two of three blinds in the master bedroom are in need of repair. Trash cans in parking lot were usually overflowing. less

Fantastic home for a family holiday

This was a great house for our family of four. The location of the complex is convenient to great snorkelling, body-boarding, a shopping centre, as well as the departure point for manta ray cruises - while just far enough away from the super-touristy part of Kona. The townhome is one of the best in the complex in terms of its position. Right on the water and at the end of a row, it feels very quiet and private, while our kids enjoyed the fact it is right next to the pool and tennis court. The previous reviews about sea-life viewing from the lanai aren't exagerated: We saw dozens of dolphins, some sea turtles and plenty of fish as well. The sunsets are incredible and it was a hard place to tear ourselves away from to go exploring each day. The house had everything we needed and our host couldn't have been more attentive. When we discovered a previous tenant had broken the body boards, three brand new ones were on our doorstep the next day. This townhome is great value for money and we can't recommend it highly enough. less

Kool Kona

Kona is a great place to vacation. Many people have heard this said but few ever seem to go making Kona a quiet, relaxing, and fun place to be. The townhome we know well having stayed there many times over the last 4 years. It's at the end of Ali'i drive in a very well managed and maintained condo development. 187 sits right on the shore about 40 feet back from the waves breaking on the lava rock shoreline. The amenities are all there and the rooms clean and in good condition. Christmas time brings palm and coconut trees wrapped in hundreds of red and green lights. Your neighbors, a mix of vacationers and permanent residents, respect your privacy and ability to enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean waves and boating that goes on all day. We will certainly keep coming back. less

October vacation

Beautiful condo! Great view, the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks was amazing! Wonderful condo grounds, pool was nice. The owner was easily available. The only issue was that it was very hot in the bedrooms. The a/c is downstairs and the bedrooms are upstairs, the air never made it upstairs making it for some very warm sleeping weather. But everything else was wonderful! less

Owner/Manager Response

So glad you guys enjoyed yourselves. Thanks for the notes about the condo. And yeah, we’ve had an unseasonably hot summer and fall! Wish we had more A/C to go around :)

Excellent time!

My husband and I spent 10 days in unit 187. A lovely location right on the ocean and the grounds of the keauhou Kona Surf Club are just beautiful and well-maintained. The unit was very clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Rocco is super and is in contact frequently before and also during your stay to insure that all is well and that you are not in need of anything. Upon our arrival we noticed that the umbrella on our patio table was missing so we contacted the local person, Kaleo who was most engaging, kind and efficient. He explained that the old one had blown away during a strong storm and within a few hours was at the house installing a new one. The unit has beach chairs, snorkeling equipment and a very nice cooler. All that you need for time on the beach. We recommend this unit with the highest regard! less

S & R C 187

The unit is nicely remodeled. The granite is nice and a good tile job. Sparsely outfitted. We were under the impression the entire unit was air conditioned. Not only the downstairs. Thank God for a sofa bed. There was no sheet for the sofa bed so we bought one and left it there. Also the contraption that is supposed to be an ironing board. is strange to use. We left a normal ironing board behind also. Would like to rent in the future BUT only if the entire unit was air conditioned. . With the current weather conditions sleeping upstairs just isn't possible. less

Owner/Manager Response

Aloha Paul   Thank for for staying with us and taking the time to review our property. As you noted the current weather is very unusual. We’ve had a record streak of heat and humidity. It’s been tough the whole summer and our usual Trade Winds have been all too scarce. We would love to be able to offer central air in those properties but it is not allowed at the Surf and Racquet Club.   We do leave extra sheets for each stay, although they were for a king instead of queen.   We would have loved to hear from you during the stay to have the opportunity to remedy the situation. Thanks again for your stay and for the notes about your experience!   K. Chu. Owner, Surf and Racquet 187.

All the comforts of home, and then some

Loved the condo. Excellent view, nice and quiet (except for the crashing of waves), comfortable, well stocked and a great value. Would highly recommend it!

Another Wonderful Stay

This marks our 4th stay at 187 and it consistently delivers a great vacation experience. We tend now to be lazy about getting out "doing stuff" since 187 makes it easy to just stick around and enjoy the views, smells and sea action. This trip we had a few days of high surf which was pretty exciting. From the second floor windows you get to see the breakers roll in and crash on the lava rock below and occasionally spill onto our lanai. Security is good, maintenance is excellent and the tennis and pool facilities are well appreciated. Definitely coming back. less

Gorgeous sunsets and a peaceful stay here!

We had a wonderful stay on this property. The ocean waves made a delightful sound, the sunsets were gorgeous and there were no noisy neighbour problems which often occur with condos and neighbours either above or below the unit you rent. The inside of the townhouse was clean, kitchen well appointed (except for a proper non-stick fry pan!), the beds were very comfortable and there were coolers, beach chairs. boogie boards and extras for use. We will definitely try to rent this townhouse again when we return to the Big Island. less

Wonderful

We really enjoyed our stay and the condo was perfect for us with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths for 2 couples. We used the kitchen a lot and used the washer and dryer which was a real bonus. The Beds were very comfy, this place was clean and we loved the location right on the ocean. We spent a lot of time on the lanai. It was nice to have the fans as we decided not to use the air conditioner. It was just fine. There were some little ants in the kitchen but we think it was the spice kit that was very old and the ants were inside the spices. We put that in the garbage and probably took care of the problem. There was a lot of rust but we know why. The outdoor table and chairs are too big and bulky. The shower in the downstairs bath was clogged with minerals and we didn't have the tools to fix it. Thank you so much. Rocco was very accommodating and friendly and checked in with us a lot. We appreciated that and will be back. less

Fabulous Location

We stayed for 12 nights and spent much of our time enjoying the facilities. The townhouse is in good condition, ideally situated on the water. Watching swimmers, kyakers, and the pods of porpoises and dolphins. Beautiful sunsets right outside our door; falling asleep to the waves crashing against the lava rock outside our window. The facility offers a swimming pool and tennis court. We found a great snorkeling spot within minutes walk and a nice open air restaurant a few minutes drive away. Suggestion: Bring a flashlight if you are arriving after dark. VERY difficult to see numbers on lockbox. Also bring binoculars. Wished we could have had a closer look at the dolphins. less

Great Location and More!

This was our third trip to the Big Island and #187. Why stay anywhere else? Location is key and with the Keauhou shopping center a 5 minute walk, Kalahuu beach for snorkeling 10 minutes, and great eateries less than 5 miles away, life was very good. Alii drive is suitable for jogging and strolling as well as scenic driving. The townhome is well-maintained and we only had to break-in the new local contact on a few points to feel really comfortable. We plan to keep coming back. less

A great place to stay!

#187 was really a great place! When we got there to move in, thanks to Rita , the place was spotless! Everything you need for a comfortable stay is included. The deck was the best part - we saw whales, dolphins, rays and turtles. Bbq behind our unit, both gas and charcoal were cleaned daily and good to use. Pool also directly behind the unit, was wonderful and very clean. A shopping center just up the hill had a very nice grocery store as well as a Long's Drug. Both Roco and the new manager were very helpful and took really good care of us and checked up on us to make sure everything was going well without being bothersome. If we go back to Kona, #187 is where we will stay again. less

Second trip, awesome experience!

Had another great experience here. Even better than the first time because of the whales, dolphins and adorable sea turtles!! I see there were more ant traps around and as long as I cleaned up the kitchen completely, we had no issues with ants. It felt like our home. Never needed air conditioning if we left our windows open. The best part is falling asleep to the crashing waves. The location is ideal and eating on the lanai was amazing. I can't wait to go back again and I hope this is our 2nd of many, many, many trips. The well stocked kitchen was awesome. We used the rice cooker. Make sure to look through the cabinets to see what the previous people left behind before going to the grocery store. Sometimes they have stuff. Sometimes they don't have stuff (like sugar). Randomly, it was really nice having a brand new sponge under the sink!! There were a few little issues: 1. I would recommend a new hanging thing for the shower upstairs. 2. I was disappointed that nobody told me the washer was broken and had been for months. I really needed to use that washer and ended up hand washing everything in the bathtub. 3. There is a DVD player in the living room. I tried to use 2 different work out Dvds and the DVD player would not work. It was very frustrating. At first it wouldn't recognize the DVD. Then it would play it but then randomly stop and the TV would switch from the DVD player to a different output. The DVD would still be running but the TV refused to show it. I have no idea if it's a DVD problem or a TV problem, but it was very disappointing. 4. The table and chairs are a bit too big for the space in the back. Mostly the chairs. It would be more comfortable with smaller chairs, even if they aren't as nice as those big ones. We had a lot of bruises on our legs from running into corners of the chairs and tables. Despite all of those issues, I would come back and I would definitely recommend staying here. less

No Key Didn't Stop Us

We arrived at Townhome #187 on the afternoon of December 23, 2013. Opened the key box with the code provided and guess what? No key. We made 3 phone calls, left 2 messages and spoke to one person who said he didn't have a key. Did he offer to send someone out to help us? Nope. Just "sorry, I don't have a key." So, being a resourceful family, we found a way to break into the unit. No worries, nothing was actually broken. But we did find 2 keys inside. The 3rd key was missing. After we had returned home from Hawaii we were contacted and asked where the 3rd key was. We left 2 notes, one with a key in the key box and one with the key on the table inside explaining that there wasn't a 3rd key. Whether the previous occupants hadn't replaced it or the cleaning crew, somebody screwed up. Apparently we should have called the man who contacted us after our stay. Funny, his contact information wasn't on any of our paperwork. We called the only 3 numbers we had and apparently no one forwarded the message to him, the only person who could help us. What would have made our stay (family with 3 boys) much better, besides not having to break into the unit upon arrival, would have been some kind of instruction manual with things like the WiFi password. Thanks for providing the WiFi but no one can use it if you don't provide the password. (Hint: it's in 4 pt. font on a sticker on the bottom of the router.) You could also include where to take the trash and a contact number for someone who can actually help you if you have trouble. It is quite distressing that no one from aloha Condos ever called to follow up with our key situation. We did call and let the only person who answered our calls for help know that we had broken into the unit. He didn't seem overly concerned. If it were my town home, I would be concerned. Otherwise we had a lovely vacation snorkeling, boogie boarding, surfing, paddle boarding, etc. The Big Island does not disappoint. There is so much to do. Mahalo. less

187 Continues To Please

We returned to 187 after a hiatus of almost 2 years and it felt like returning to an idyllic home. Everything, with some minor wear and tear issues, was as we remembered it. The best feature to us is the location: the surf is only 20 feet from the lanai, the townhome is well-built with plenty of up-to-date appliances and amenities, and the surrounding campus/complex is extremely well maintained. The Keauhou shopping center is just up the road with some pretty good restaurants. We loved being there, didn't want to leave, and plan to come back soon. less

Relaxing!

The condo was clean, in great condition, and in a great location for our family needs. We walked to great snorkeling, historical ruins, and beaches. Grocery shopping and a few restaurants were a short drive away. We enjoyed the sunset each evening and breakfast on the lanai each morning with an intimate view of the Pacific Ocean. less

Perfect.

Came here on the begining half of our honeymoon. It was perfect. Husband fished off the rocks. Lots of waves crashing up at him. Gorgeous pictures. The kitchen was well stocked. Appliances up to date. Fans kept the rooms nice and cool. The waves crashing sometimes felt like they were going to crash in our rooms ... which I really enjoyed. Two bathrooms are great. Check the cabinets before buying anything! Lots of left over stuff so you don't have to buy a huge bottle of something when there's a little left from previous vacationers! There is a small ant problem - meaning just don't leave food out cuz they'll find 'em. There was work being done on the window during our stay. Not a problem, just wish it was communicated to us at some point. less

— Emily J, Stayed 08/19/2013

Perfection

Townhome #187 was the most beautiful location on the Big Island. The crashing ocean waves were wonderful to see and hear. The negative is that the coast is so rocky, and we could see areas that would have been perfect for snorkeling, but no way to access them safely. However, the beach two blocks away was great for snorkeling. We saw an abundance of fish, and swam with sea turtles. We watched a large pod of dolphins from the lanai. The townhouse has a/c on the first floor. We never used it. Open the doors and windows and the fans worked very well. The furniture was sturdy and comfortable. The kitchen well equipped. I can't think of a thing that we lacked. We didn't use the pool, but it was being well enjoyed by others. The tennis courts were in use too. Groundskeeping was being done while we were there, but the workers were very quiet and professional. I hate to recommend the townhome, because we would want it to be available for our use again, but we won't be selfish. Just a warning that it is two story, so there are steps (for those who find that a problem.) One improvement would be information about the area, the beach, and restaurant menus. Plus directions to the wonderful shopping center just up the hill, including a good Urgent Care facility. (We used that on our last trip.) In a couple of words: wonderful and convenient less

Why stay anywhere else on the Big Island!!!

Because this is probably the best place you'll find for the best price. Great location: 1min drive or 8-10min walk to the nearby beach (turn left when exiting the condo and it's the first beach on the left). Tons of fish, and we spotted 3 turtles in 2 mornings! 10min drive to the main Kailua-Kona restaurants and shop, and 1.5-2 hours to the north end and south end of the island... right in the middle of everything. Magnificent view: Lanai opens up to the ocean, literally metres from your seat. Watch the sunsets in private and in the comfort of the home. Condo itself: Has everything you need... from a blender, to tennis rackets, to beach chairs, to a full knife set. There's air-conditioning on the first floor but realistically you won't need it at all... we switched it on for maybe 3 hours in the 5 days that we were there. Also, there are 3 tennis courts in perfect condition! Many thanks to Rocco for sharing this place with us. We truly enjoyed it and would most definitely return to this unit on our next visit to the island! And thank you for accommodating the last-minute extension requested too! Mahalo! less

Relaxing townhouse with ocean backyard

We found townhouse 187 to be very clean and fully stocked with kitchen supplies, even a full spice rack. There were beach towels and the kitchen closet contained snorkeling gear, coolers, tennis rackets, and a couple old lawn chairs. The location is very quiete and the swimming pool is right on the other side of the driveway. It was very easy to keep the townhouse clean since there were plenty of cleaning supplies and the tile floor, granite countertops, and glass tops on the tables were very easy to keep clean. This was nice because that meant for time for getting out and doing things. The snorkeling bay is a 10 minute walk and is like swimming in an aquarium. We brought an underwater case for our point and shoot camera and that worked very well. It was a short drive up the hill to the market, but we found KTa in Kona to have better fruits and L&L; barbeque in Captain Cook was much more laid back. Overall, it was very clean, quite, and made a good home base for trips. less

On the water in beautiful Kona

Overall we had an excellent stay in townhome 187 at the Surf and Racquet club. We used the well equipped kitchen every morning for breakfast. The bathrooms and sleeping arrangements are comfortable for my family of 5, although 1 of us slept on the fold out sofa bed in the family room. This place is less than 15m from the water's edge, so relaxing on the Lanai is a special treat. We had the windows and doors open any time we were in the town home. The negatives are minor. Limited WiFi is available only from the neighbors, the upstairs bath is a standup shower only and plan to rent or bring you own snorkeling and water play toys. The town home does have a couple tennis racquets that we used nearly daily to play on the well maintained courts, and folding chairs for relaxing at the beaches. The big positives are that the best snorkeling beach is just a few hundred meters north of the property (we never walked though, always drove), the weather in Kona is warm and sunny, and restaurants, sand beaches and 2 different marinas are just a few minutes drive away. less

Relaxing location on the Big Island

Great location for access to the many attractions on the Big Island. Surf and Racquet Club is a quiet and pleasant location for a get-a-way to the island. Only negatives were the snorkeling gear and the wireless internet. Snorkeling masks are useless because of old or damaged seals for the face. Local rentals provide much better/useable equipment. The wireless internet availability in the unit did not exist and presents a real problem for today's requirement of staying connected. The guest book indicated that lack of wireless service was a major issue for guest staying at the unit. less

Mixed experience.

Great ocean view. Nice facilities. Comfortable. The bad news: No internet access in unit even though promised as part of the package. No effort made to resolve the issue for the entire two weeks that we stayed there. Also, charged $200.00 extra for air conditioning even though we never used it at any time for the entire stay. Nice pool but no hot tub. Lack of decent grill for BBQ. Video library was advertised but no Dvd's were available. A nice place to stay but not everything advertised was provided. less

I am so happy with our decision to stay here, it was wonderful. Pros: -Convenient location -waterfront! Beach towels, snorkel gear, and chairs were really handy. -Big comfortable bed in the main room -clean!!! -Free wifi -Our one little issue was able to be resolved immediately as our on-island contact picked up the phone on the 1st try and was really friendly and helpful. -Quiet in terms of other people -The property was beautiful with such a nice, clean pool. -no geckos inside at all. In fact, no bugs. I didn't know this existed in Hawaii. As an insect and lizard phobic person, this was thrilling. Cons: -I would just suggest the owner/management: 1) Fix the screen door (it always felt like it was about to fall off) and 2) Fix the key to the front door (It was really hard to open sometimes). less

We very much enjoyed our stay in townhouse 187. It was neat and nicely furnished and well stocked with all we needed, including some snorkel gear. The unit is on an end and very close to the pool, but the best is that the ocean is out the back door. We spent a lot of our time on the back patio. Not some euphemistic "ocean front" or "ocean view" where you squint at a postage-stamp size piece of ocean between other people's condos. Entry to complex and unit easy, just followed instructions. Check-out tasks not too onerous & got my deposit back. Very nice that there was beach stuff -- snorkels, mats, boards -- so we didn't have to run out to Walmart and buy all this stuff our first few hours in Kailua. Also very nice that there are snorkeling and swimming beached within 3 miles to the north. Quiet neighbors, no annoying dogs or children. Only thing missing is air conditioning in the upstairs bedroom on the land side. Ocean side upstairs bedroom very pleasant at night with sea breeze and sound of surf. less

Seaside Luxury!

Beautifully appointed condo with all the modern amenities one could ask for! The lanai was just a few feet from the pounding surf and dramatic black volcanic rock formation- ideal for early morning sunrises with kona coffee in hand and surreal sunsets with mai tai in hand! less

Perfectly Oceanfront

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed townhouse 187 at Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club. The ocean is just outside your door. The townhouse is remodeled well, very clean, and is nicely decorated. The owner seems to take pride in making sure your stay is great. The kitchen is very well supplied. Having boogie boards, snorkels and ice chest ready and waiting made one less errand to do - we could just head straight to the beach. Very pleased with working with aloha Condos too! less

Simply wonderful

We loved the townhome. The location was close to everything and quiet and peaceful. We loved to listen to the sound of the ocean. The condo was very clean with wonderful appliances and furniture.

Great Family Condo

We stayed in 187 over New Years 2011 with 2 adult children. The Condo was perfect for 4 of us. We saw beautiful sunsets, whales offshore, snorkled nearby and enjoyed a quiet private location. We really appreciated the well equiped kitchen and extras such as cooler, towels, soap. The pool and tennis courts are close by too. The only thing you might dislike is the sound of chirping birds and crashing waves. Also only suitable for 4 people unless you want somebody on the sofa in the main living area. We will definitely will return and recommend. less

Awesome views, location and accomodations.

Condo has excellent ocean views; we were able to see dolphins and whales from our lanai. The condo is very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. This condo is in a quiet area yet still close to downtown Kona. Rocco was great to deal with (excellent communication). Thank you for a great stay. When we return, this will definately be the place we want to stay at. less

Great location, awesome views

The view from the lanai is simply amazing - a lone coconut tree and the vast expanse of water in the background. There was also snorkeling gear for four guests and that was useful. In the master bedroom, you will sleep listening to the waves gently crashing into the rocks. There is also a cooler that came in handy during short trips on the island. In all, we had an awesome experience at 187 and would strongly recommend it anyone who wants to stay in Kona on Big Island. less

Wow!

Booking through alohacondos.com was easy and completely trouble free. The unit was as described: it had a great description online, and as soon as we walked through the front door - it was all true! The ocean was right there, the whole unit is very well appointed - great kitchen, front-loader washer and dryer (which my wife loved), very comfortable, very clean. The location is great - it's one of the best locations on the property, and is close to amenities, beaches (we walked to snorkeling and surfing lessons), restaurants, town; activities on the Kona coast are all close by, both North and South of there. The Surf and Racquet club is very nice and quiet. Couldn't ask for a better spot for a relaxing family holiday. less

Perfect stay in paradise!

It was an amazing stay. The condo was perfect for us. The view was great and the condition of the condo was very good. We had everything we needed and more (washing machine, dryer, snorkel gear, bodyboard, hair dryer, BBQ station)! We also enjoyed watching the turtles on the beach next to us. We can highly recommend this condo to everybody who attach great importance to privacy. The resort was very clean and silent. less

Outstanding...don't miss it if you have the chance to stay here

If you want a vacation rental that will take your breath away, look no further. Townhouse 187 is awesome. From the moment you open the front door and see the waves crashing on the lava beyond the sliding lanai door, to the time you prepare your first meal in the fantastic kitchen (granite countertops, high-end appliances and waves crashing outside your kitchen window) to the end of the day when you crawl into the heavenly bed, you won't be disappointed . We've stayed at the Keauhou Surf and Racquet club several times, all through private owner rentals, all oceanfront. Mostly great, (all aloha Condos), one time lousy, (not aloha Condos). The location is superb, with terrific snorkeling right next door at Kahaluu Beach Park. The grounds of the complex are meticulously maintained. The oceanfront units are especially nice as you are insulated from traffic. Not mention you'll have front row seats for the most beautiful sunsets. Alohacondos.com, makes contracting for Townhouse 187 a breeze. Check-in was made easy by Rocco, who sent an email the week of our departure with all the information, directions, gate codes etc. Being an end unit, Townhouse 187 has more light and ventilation than others on the oceanfront, allowing you to take advantge of the cool tradewinds. From the top-to-bottom quality remodel, (both materials and craftsmanship), to the luxurious linens, we could not have wished for better. It was really nice to have a full-size washer and dryer in the unit too. We sincerely hope to stay here again. less
